MANCHESTER-BY-THE-SEA

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Designed in 1915 by the Boston architectural firm Bigelow and Wadsworth for the Thomas B. Gannett family, this residence showcases many architectural features typical of an English country house. Design Associates restored the house to its former elegance, replacing several awkward and clumsy alterations made in the 1980s with a well-scaled, period-appropriate addition. This addition includes conservatory-quality skylights that bring abundant northern light into the interior spaces, along with a new kitchen, mudroom, and breakfast room.

Additionally, a new pool house, designed to complement the main house, frames the redesigned swimming pool. The renovations to the existing carriage house also reflect  Design Associates' attention to detail.
