ELLINGWOOD CHAPEL RESTORATION

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Design Associates, Inc surveyed the Ellingwood Chapel as one of the three national registered buildings in Nahant. The Ellingwood Chapel was designed by firm Cram and Ferguson in 1914. To restore the chapel, Design Associates joined as part of the effort to recieve a sucessful grant. Subsequently the chapel underwent petrographic analysis which informed mortar formulation for extensive repointing and partial reconstruction of masonry on the north elevation. Wood window casings were restored and site retaining walls stabilized.

Direct inspection of masonry, fenestration, roofing, flashing and woodwork. Coordination with town personnel and property stakeholders. Prepare reports on each building conditions, phased repair and preservation plans and budgetary cost estimates for proposed work. Public presentations of findings and recommendations. Successful grant writing for Ellingwood Chapel.
