MANCHESTER-BY-THE-SEA
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Designed in 1915 by the Boston architectural firm of Bigelow and Wadsworth for the Thomas B. Gannett family, this residence bears many of the architectural features of an English Country house. Design Associates restored the house to its former elegance. Several awkward and ungainly alterations from the 1980s were replaced with a well-scaled and period-appropriate addition, complete with conservatory-quality skylights bringing abundant north light to the interior spaces. The addition includes a new Kitchen, Mudroom, and Breakfast Room. A new pool house, echoing the vocabulary of the main house frames bookends the redesigned swimming pool. Renovations to the existing carriage house demanded the same discerning eye for detail.
