The James Mellen House
Project Description
Situated on a tree-lined street in Cambridge’s Avon Hill, this elegant shingle-style building was designed by Hartwell and Richardson in the 1880s. In the late 20th century, it was converted into several condominiums. When the ground floor unit was acquired in 2022, it required significant updates, but the client wanted to honor the beautiful 19th-century architectural details. Design Associates, along with S. L. Mario Construction, revamped the bathrooms and kitchen according to the client's specifications, restored the worn finishes in the spacious public areas, and upgraded the plumbing, heating, and cooling systems.
